Disney is bringing the heat to theaters this summer, and this lineup is stacked with Pixar nostalgia, a live-action Disney favorite, cult comedy chaos, and a post-apocalyptic thriller.
The Walt Disney Company has shared its Summer 2026 theatrical slate, and this is not a one-lane movie season. Disney’s upcoming releases span Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Live Action, Searchlight Pictures, and 20th Century Studios, giving moviegoers everything from familiar toys and ocean voyagers to unruly troopers and survival stories.
Disney is also tying the season into its larger “Disney Blockbuster Summer” campaign, bringing together storytelling, experiences, toys, fashion, and fandom in a way that extends beyond the theater.
Disney’s Summer 2026 Movie Slate
According to The Walt Disney Company, the Summer 2026 theatrical lineup includes:
- Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 — June 19
- Disney’s Moana — July 10
- Searchlight Pictures’ Super Troopers 3 — August 7
- 20th Century Studios’ The Dog Stars — August 28
The company also noted that Walt Disney Studios became the first studio to surpass $2 billion worldwide this year, fueled by five releases. Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers delivered the biggest domestic debut for an original animated film since Coco in 2017, while 20th Century Studios’ The Devil Wears Prada 2 brought audiences back into the world of Runway nearly two decades later.
Disney also pointed to Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu as part of its 2026 box office momentum, noting that the film marked Star Wars’ return to the big screen and opened as the No. 1 film in the world. The release also built on the success of The Mandalorian as Disney+’s most-watched Original, with more than 1.3 billion hours streamed globally.
Toy Story 5 Arrives June 19
First up for the summer slate is Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, arriving in theaters on June 19.
Disney is leaning right into the feelings with this one: the first chords of a Randy Newman song, that iconic blue-sky wallpaper full of clouds, and the cowboy-and-space-ranger friendship that shaped an entire generation.
More than 30 years after Toy Story first became one of Disney and Pixar’s most beloved franchises, Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Disney Legend Tim Allen, Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, and the rest of the gang are returning for an all-new adventure.
This time, the story explores what happens when “Toy meets Tech.”
In Toy Story 5, Bonnie’s world is turned upside down by Lilypad, a tablet device voiced by Greta Lee, who comes with her own ideas about what kids need most.
The new voice cast also includes Craig Robinson, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Shelby Rabara, Matty Matheson, Conan O’Brien, and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny.
Toy Story 5 is directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton and features a new score from Disney Legend Randy Newman. Disney also confirmed that the film will include a brand-new original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” by 14-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Taylor Swift.
So yes, Pixar is coming for our childhood, our emotions, and apparently our playlists too.
Disney’s Live-Action Moana Opens July 10
The ocean is calling again.
Disney’s live-action reimagining of Moana arrives in theaters July 10, bringing one of Disney’s most beloved modern animated stories back to the big screen for a new generation.
Catherine Laga‘aia stars as Moana, stepping into the role of the determined wayfinder, while future Disney Legend Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui.
Disney noted that since first stunning audiences in 2016, Moana has become one of the company’s most enduring modern franchises. Over the past five years, the first Moana film has remained one of the most-streamed movies annually, and Moana 2 joined those ranks after its Disney+ debut last year.
The live-action Moana is directed by Emmy and Tony Award winner Thomas Kail. The film features new music from future Disney Legend Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa‘i, and Mark Mancina.
Between the music, the ocean, Maui’s return, and Moana stepping into live action, this one is clearly positioned as one of Disney’s biggest family releases of the summer.
Super Troopers 3 Hits Theaters August 7
Searchlight Pictures is also bringing comedy back to theaters this summer with Super Troopers 3, opening August 7.
The Broken Lizard crew returns for the long-awaited next chapter in the cult comedy franchise, which has entertained fans for more than two decades.
According to Disney, the story follows Farva’s wildly over-the-top engagement to Thorny’s sister as it spirals into chaos. The Super Troopers must navigate Thorny’s schemes to break up the relationship while also trying to crack a dangerous new drug ring — all while attempting to save the day and maybe even the wedding.
Super Troopers 3 is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who also reprises his role as Thorny.
The film also brings back the Broken Lizard troupe, including Kevin Hefferman as Farva, Steve Lemme as Mac, Paul Soter as Foster, and Erik Stolhanske as Rabbit.
So, yes, this summer slate has Pixar nostalgia, Disney music, and full-blown Broken Lizard chaos. Range!
The Dog Stars Arrives August 28
Closing out Disney’s Summer 2026 theatrical lineup is 20th Century Studios’ The Dog Stars, arriving August 28.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the film drops audiences into a brutal post-apocalyptic world with a critically acclaimed ensemble cast that includes Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney.
Based on Peter Heller’s bestselling novel, The Dog Stars is described as an epic thriller set in a world where survival is instinct, but humanity is a choice.
The story follows Hig, played by Jacob Elordi, a young pilot, and Bangley, played by Josh Brolin, a military survivalist. After hearing a mysterious radio transmission, the two set out on a dangerous journey in search of hope, and the possibility that they may not be alone after all.
It is a very different kind of Disney-owned theatrical release, but that is exactly what makes this summer lineup interesting. Disney is not just leaning on family films. It is showing the range of its studios across animation, live action, comedy, and thriller storytelling.
Disney’s Fall 2026 Movie Momentum Continues
Disney also made it clear that the momentum will not stop when summer ends.
Before Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, fans can prepare with a limited theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame on September 25.
Then, 20th Century Studios will release the deep-sea thriller Whalefall on October 16.
Searchlight Pictures’ Wild Horse Nine follows on November 6. The film is directed by Martin McDonagh and stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell.
Walt Disney Animation Studios will also return with Hexed, a brand-new original adventure filled with magic, heart, and wonder, arriving only in theaters on November 25.
