A long-standing Disney Cruise Line perk is changing — at least on one ship.
Guests sailing aboard the Disney Adventure from Singapore will soon see a new charge added to room service orders. While the food itself will remain complimentary, Disney is implementing a delivery fee for in-room dining orders beginning this week.
According to reports, the Disney Adventure will begin charging a US$5 delivery fee per room service order delivered to guest staterooms. In addition to the fee, an 18% gratuity will automatically be added to each order.
The new policy is expected to take effect beginning with the June 4 sailing and is reportedly being introduced to help manage high demand for room service aboard the Singapore-based ship.
Food Remains Complimentary
The change does not mean Disney is charging for the room service menu itself.
Most room service items aboard Disney Cruise Line ships will continue to be included in the cruise fare, with guests now paying a delivery charge for the convenience of having those items brought directly to their stateroom aboard Disney Adventure.
Some Orders Will Be Exempt
Not every room service order will be subject to the new fee.
Reports indicate that breakfast orders submitted using the stateroom breakfast door hanger cards will remain exempt from the delivery charge. Concierge-level guests are also expected to be excluded from the new fee structure.
A First for Disney Cruise Line
The move marks a notable change for Disney Cruise Line, where complimentary room service has long been one of the most popular onboard perks. Disney Adventure is expected to become the first ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet to charge a delivery fee for standard room service orders.
Disney Adventure, which is homeported in Singapore and exclusively serves the Asia market, has already operated somewhat differently from other Disney Cruise Line vessels, and the new fee appears to be another example of those operational differences.
