If you have a Disney Cruise coming up, you may want to double-check a few packing plans before heading to the port.

Disney Cruise Line has officially updated several guest policies covering onboard alcohol allowances, professional-style camera equipment, and stateroom door decorations. The updates recently appeared on Disney Cruise Line’s official prohibited items and guest services pages and could affect what guests bring onboard during future sailings, and longtime Disney cruisers are probably going to notice these changes immediately.
One of the biggest updates involves Disney Cruise Line’s alcohol allowance rules.
According to the updated policy, guests aged 21 and older may now bring:
- One unopened bottle of wine or champagne (up to 750 ml)
OR - Six beers (up to 12 ounces each)
…onboard at embarkation and at each port of call.
Previously, Disney Cruise Line allowed guests to bring up to two bottles of wine or champagne. The updated wording also continues to require that:
- Alcohol remains unopened
- Alcohol be packed in carry-on luggage
- Spirits and liquor remain prohibited
- Excess alcohol purchased in ports should be stored until the end of the voyage
Guests who choose to bring wine or champagne into rotational dining restaurants will still be charged Disney Cruise Line’s corkage fee.
Honestly, the reduction from two wine bottles down to one is probably the change that will generate the biggest reaction from frequent Disney cruisers.
New Restrictions Were Added for Camera Equipment
Disney Cruise Line has also updated its policies regarding camera equipment and recording devices. According to the revised guidelines, guests may not bring:
- Camera stands
- Lighting rigs
- Recording setups
- Professional-style production equipment that could obstruct public spaces or interfere with other guests’ experiences
The policy appears aimed primarily at larger content creation setups rather than standard vacation photography equipment.
Guests can still bring personal cameras, smartphones, GoPros, and typical travel photography gear, but Disney is making it increasingly clear that cruise ships are not intended to function as full-scale filming locations.
With the explosion of cruise vloggers and content creators over the last several years, this update probably isn’t very surprising.
Disney Also Clarified Door Decoration Rules
Disney Cruise Line additionally updated its stateroom decorating guidelines with new language specifically stating: “Decorations should only be placed on doors and are not permitted on corridor walls or ceilings.”
Door decorating remains one of Disney Cruise Line’s most popular guest traditions, with families often creating:
- Magnetic door signs
- Birthday decorations
- Family name displays
- Fish extender-themed magnets
- Character-inspired decorations
However, Disney now appears to be drawing a much firmer line around keeping decorations confined strictly to the stateroom door itself.
The company continues to prohibit tape, adhesives, gel adhesives, and over-the-door organizers that may damage doors or trim. Guests may still be charged a $100 repair fee if decorations damage stateroom doors.
Disney Is Clearly Focusing on Safety and Operations
While Disney did not provide extensive explanations alongside the changes, many of the updates appear tied to fire safety, corridor accessibility, guest flow, property damage prevention, and operational consistency on board ships.
Similar discussions have recently surfaced across the cruise industry as multiple cruise lines reevaluate door decorations, hallway displays, and guest-created installations throughout ships.
As cruise ships continue getting more crowded and content creation continues growing onboard, these types of policy updates probably aren’t going away anytime soon.
Guests Should Review Policies Before Sailing
Disney Cruise Line reminds guests that prohibited item policies can change at any time and encourages travelers to review current guidelines before embarkation.
While most guests likely won’t be heavily impacted by the changes, frequent cruisers, content creators, and guests who participate in elaborate door decorating traditions may want to pay particularly close attention before packing for their next voyage.
It’s probably better to find out about these rules before arriving at the terminal with extra wine bottles and a suitcase full of hallway decorations.
