The iconic Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida is officially closed indefinitely.
The longtime Universal Orlando attraction began its temporary closure on May 12, 2026, as Universal moves forward with plans for a “reimagined” version of the show set to debut later this year.
The Horror Make-Up Show has been part of Universal Studios Florida since the park originally opened in 1990.
The live stage show gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at practical horror movie effects, prosthetic makeup, and special effects techniques used throughout Universal’s horror film history.
Over the years, the attraction became known for its mix of horror movie trivia, audience participation, practical effects demonstrations, comedy-heavy performances, and Universal Monsters references.
Despite the horror theme, the show was often considered one of the funniest attractions inside Universal Studios Florida thanks to its comedic hosts and improvisational audience interactions.
Universal Orlando previously confirmed that the closure is temporary and that a newly updated version of the attraction will debut later in 2026.
According to reports, the updated show is expected to incorporate both classic and modern horror properties while still maintaining the humor and movie-making focus that made the original version so popular.
However, Universal has not yet revealed an official reopening date, show details, new characters or franchises involved, or updated storyline elements.
