If you’ve used the ticket kiosks at Universal before, you might notice something missing on your next visit.

A noticeable change has taken place at Universal Orlando Resort, and it’s one that could impact how guests start their park day. The self-service ticket kiosks that once sat outside both parks have now been fully removed and replaced with new signage promoting a “Digital Will Call” system, signaling a clear shift toward a more mobile-first experience.

Guests arriving at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure will no longer find the familiar ticket kiosks used to print pre-purchased tickets. Those machines have been completely removed from the entrance areas, leaving behind newly updated spaces that now feature signage instead.

In their place, Universal has introduced a new system centered around QR codes. The signage (captured by Bioreconstruct on X) directs guests to scan a code with their phone, which takes them to a webpage where they can retrieve their tickets digitally by entering their last name and confirmation number.

The new signage welcomes guests to what Universal is calling Digital Will Call, encouraging them to access their tickets directly on their mobile device rather than printing them.

Once scanned, the QR code leads to a browser-based page (not the Universal app), where guests can pull up their tickets and head straight to the entrance. For guests who already have their tickets ready, the process is even simpler, allowing them to bypass this step entirely and proceed directly into the park.

While Universal hasn’t officially explained the decision, the move aligns with a broader trend across the theme park industry toward fully digital experiences.

The kiosks previously allowed guests to print tickets purchased online, offering a quick alternative to waiting in line at ticket windows. However, with the increasing reliance on smartphones, mobile wallets, and digital ticketing, it appears Universal is actively phasing out physical ticket options in favor of a more streamlined, tech-driven approach.

For most visitors, this change may feel like a natural progression, especially for those already using mobile tickets. However, it does shift how guests need to prepare for their visit.

Without kiosks, anyone who needs help accessing tickets or prefers a physical version will now need to rely more heavily on ticket windows or guest services. It also means having your phone ready (and charged) has become even more important at the start of your park day.

If you’re heading to Universal Orlando soon, this is one change you’ll want to be aware of before you arrive. Making sure your tickets are easily accessible on your phone could save you time (and a bit of confusion) at the front gates.
