New aerial photos from Disney’s Hollywood Studios reveal major progress on the upcoming Monsters Inc. Door Vault roller coaster, with steel structures now rising above the construction site for the highly anticipated Monstropolis expansion.

According to new aerial photos shared by Bioreconstruct and first reported by BlogMickey, multiple steel structures are now visible at the construction site behind the former Muppets Courtyard area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The newly installed structures appear to be part of the load station area or early ride infrastructure for the upcoming Monsters Inc. roller coaster themed to the iconic door vault chase scene from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.

The photos also show additional vertical coaster support columns continuing to rise around the massive attraction footprint. Seeing vertical construction finally happening makes the project feel WAY bigger than concept art ever did.

Disney’s First Suspended Coaster Is Going To Be HUGE

Disney previously confirmed that the attraction will feature the first suspended roller coaster ever built at a Disney theme park.

The upcoming attraction is expected to include:

  • A suspended coaster ride system
  • A vertical lift element
  • A recreation of the famous door vault sequence from Monsters, Inc.
  • A massive indoor show building

According to earlier construction reports, the ride building itself may actually end up larger than Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance nearby at Hollywood Studios.

The new coaster is part of Disney’s larger Monstropolis-themed expansion, replacing Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Construction has accelerated significantly over the past few months, with aerial photos previously showing foundation work, massive concrete pours, coaster support staging areas near EPCOT, utility and conduit installation, and early coaster support columns.

Disney has not yet announced an official opening date for the land or coaster. Still, the amount of vertical construction happening now suggests the project is moving quickly behind the scenes. Watching Monstropolis slowly rise from the former Muppets area feels surreal for longtime Hollywood Studios fans.

We’ll continue following construction progress on the Monsters Inc. Door Vault coaster and the larger Monstropolis expansion, so be sure to check back soon for more Disney World news, construction updates, attraction announcements, and theme park coverage.
