Universal Destinations & Experiences and the University of Central Florida are officially teaming up in a BIG way.
The two organizations have announced the creation of the Universal School of Experience Leadership and Innovation, a brand-new program designed to help develop future leaders in themed entertainment, immersive experiences, hospitality technology, and guest experience innovation.
According to the announcement, Universal Destinations & Experiences is supporting the initiative through a $10 million investment aimed at helping prepare students for the future of themed entertainment and immersive experiences.
The new school will officially be called the Universal School of Experience Leadership and Innovation and will be housed within UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management, which Universal notes is ranked the No. 1 hospitality management college globally.
According to the announcement, the new school will work alongside Rosen College’s existing School of Hospitality Leadership to create a “dual-school model” blending experience-focused education, business strategy, guest service leadership, operations management, and innovation and technology.
Universal says the new school is specifically designed to help students prepare for careers tied to themed entertainment, immersive experiences, hospitality innovation, emerging entertainment technology, and guest experience design.
In a statement included in the announcement, Mark Woodbury said the school will combine creativity, technology, business strategy, marketing, and guest service to help develop future leaders in immersive entertainment.
Meanwhile, Alexander N. Cartwright said the collaboration aligns directly with UCF’s mission of connecting students with industries shaping the future of immersive experiences.
A New Hospitality Technology Lab Is Also Coming
As part of the partnership, Universal and UCF also announced plans for a new Hospitality Technology Lab.
According to the announcement, the lab will function as a collaborative space where students can test new ideas, work on research projects, gain hands-on experience, collaborate with Universal professionals, and work alongside faculty and industry leaders.
The lab is expected to focus heavily on emerging technologies tied to immersive entertainment and guest experience development.
The Program Will Explore AI, Robotics & VR
Universal says several key research and teaching focus areas for the new school will include service robotics and guest interaction technology, augmented reality and virtual reality simulation tools, artificial intelligence and digital twins, human-centered technology approaches, and immersive operational systems.
The school’s curriculum and research initiatives are expected to build directly on UCF’s existing strengths in entertainment technology, simulation, gaming, and themed experience education.
The announcement further solidifies Central Florida’s growing reputation as one of the world’s leading hubs for themed entertainment education and workforce development.
UCF already offers highly regarded programs connected to themed experiences, hospitality management, entertainment management, simulation technology, and interactive media, and with Universal Orlando continuing major expansion projects (including the recent opening of Universal Epic Universe), the demand for future industry talent continues to grow rapidly.
