Something new may finally be happening at Disney’s BoardWalk!

Two mystery projects (labeled “Project Amazon” and “Project Bubbles”) have now appeared in recent permit filings connected to Disney’s BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World. The filings target two long-vacant spaces along the BoardWalk promenade that Disney fans have been watching closely for months.
After multiple closures along the BoardWalk over the past couple of years, this is one of the biggest signs yet that Disney may finally be preparing to bring new life back to the area.
“Project Amazon” Targets Former Big River Grille Space
According to the permit filings, “Project Amazon” is connected to the former Big River Grille & Brewing Works location on Disney’s BoardWalk.

Big River Grille permanently closed in January 2024 after operating at BoardWalk for decades. Since then, the large waterfront restaurant space has remained vacant with little visible progress publicly announced by Disney.
The newly filed permits reportedly reference demolition and infrastructure-related work within the location. However, Disney has not officially announced what the space will eventually become.
At this point, the “Project Amazon” name appears to simply be an internal project codename rather than any indication of the final theme or tenant.
“Project Bubbles” Linked to Former Promenade Fine Art Gallery
The second filing references “Project Bubbles,” which is tied to the former Promenade Fine Art Gallery location along the BoardWalk promenade.

Promenade Fine Art Gallery quietly closed in late 2025, becoming another empty storefront on the BoardWalk’s increasingly vacant west side.
Like Project Amazon, the permit filing does not reveal exactly what Disney has planned for the space. The documents primarily point toward construction and interior work activity.
Disney Has Not Announced Any New Concepts Yet
Right now, Disney has not officially confirmed what either project will become.
The filings only provide project names and limited construction details, leaving plenty of room for speculation among Disney fans.

Still, the timing is notable given the growing number of vacant storefronts that have developed along portions of Disney’s BoardWalk in recent years.
Recent closures have included Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Jellyrolls, and the Promenade Fine Art Gallery.
Meanwhile, Disney recently opened The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers and added newer food offerings elsewhere on the BoardWalk.
The BoardWalk Has Seen Major Changes Recently
Disney’s BoardWalk has gone through a significant transition period over the past few years.
While the resort area remains one of the most popular EPCOT-area destinations thanks to its location near EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, many guests have noticed increasing construction walls and vacant spaces along sections of the promenade.

Disney has also continued broader refurbishment projects throughout Disney’s BoardWalk Inn itself, including room refurbishments and exterior updates.
The addition of these new permit filings now suggests Disney may finally be preparing larger redevelopment plans for some of the empty entertainment and dining locations.
What Could Replace the Empty Spaces?
For now, that remains the big question.
Disney has not revealed whether the new projects involve restaurants, lounges, shopping locations, entertainment venues, reimagined concepts, or even completely original experiences.

And Disney fans already have plenty of theories!
Given BoardWalk’s nightlife history and its location between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, many guests have hoped to see more dining and entertainment offerings eventually return to the area.
While details remain limited for now, the appearance of “Project Amazon” and “Project Bubbles” in new permit filings is one of the clearest signs yet that Disney is actively working on changes for Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.
After months of empty storefronts and unanswered questions, it finally looks like movement may be happening behind the scenes.
