A new aerial look is giving us a clearer view of Catchlight Crossings, the affordable housing development taking shape near Universal Orlando Resort and Epic Universe. While it may not be a new ride or attraction, this project could become one of the most important additions to the growing tourism corridor.

New aerial photos from bioreconstruct are offering an updated look at Catchlight Crossings, the affordable housing community currently in development by Universal near Epic Universe. The project is being built near the International Drive tourism corridor, close to Universal Orlando Resort’s newest theme park and the surrounding resort area.

Catchlight Crossings is designed to bring 1,000 affordable apartment homes to Central Florida, with a focus on supporting hospitality and service workers who help power Orlando’s tourism industry. The development is part of Universal’s larger effort to help address the need for affordable and workforce housing near where many employees actually work.

Beyond housing, the community is expected to include shared spaces, retail, nonprofit space, parking garages, and a transit plaza, helping create a more connected neighborhood rather than just another apartment complex.

With Epic Universe now reshaping the Universal Orlando area, housing near the tourism corridor is becoming an even bigger conversation. Catchlight Crossings could help reduce long commutes for local workers while adding much-needed affordable housing close to one of Orlando’s busiest employment hubs.

As construction continues, this is definitely one Universal project worth watching — not because it’s flashy, but because it could make a real difference for the people who keep Orlando’s tourism industry moving.
