What if Disney rides could check your safety restraints without a Cast Member ever touching them?

A newly uncovered patent from The Walt Disney Company is giving us a glimpse into what the future of theme park attractions could look like, and it’s powered by artificial intelligence.
The patent outlines a system that uses cameras and machine learning technology to automatically verify that ride restraints, like lap bars and seatbelts, are properly secured before a ride dispatches. Instead of relying solely on Cast Members to manually check every guest, the system would analyze video footage in real time and flag any potential issues.

According to the patent, cameras positioned around the ride vehicle would continuously monitor guests as they are seated. Using machine learning models, the system could determine whether each restraint is correctly fastened and meets safety requirements.
If something looks off (like a restraint not fully locked), the system would alert a human operator to step in and review the specific seat, rather than requiring a full manual check of every row.

One of the biggest implications of this technology is faster ride loading times.
Currently, Cast Members must individually check each restraint before dispatch, which can slow down operations — especially on high-capacity attractions. By automating part of that process, Disney could significantly reduce load times while still maintaining strict safety standards.
This kind of innovation aligns with the long history of Walt Disney Imagineering, which has developed hundreds of patents aimed at improving both guest experience and operational efficiency inside the parks.

As with all Disney patents, this technology is not guaranteed to be implemented. Many concepts are filed as part of long-term research and may evolve, or never make it into the parks at all.
Still, it offers an exciting look at how Disney is exploring ways to blend AI, safety, and efficiency into the next generation of attractions.
If this technology does make its way into the parks, it could completely change how we experience ride loading, and maybe even shorten your wait time.
Stay tuned for more Disney tech updates, park innovations, and insider news as the future of theme parks continues to evolve.
