One of Disney World’s most peaceful (and popular) rides isn’t a ride at all…and it’s about to go offline.

If you’ve ever taken that quiet boat ride across Bay Lake, you know it’s more than just transportation—it’s part of the magic. But if you’re heading to Disney World soon, especially around the Magic Kingdom area, there’s a temporary change you’ll want to plan around.

A key transportation option at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is officially going down for refurbishment—and it could impact how you get around during your trip.

Disney has confirmed that the resort’s boat dock will undergo maintenance from April 13 through late July 2026, with boat transportation fully suspended from April 13 through May 1.

During that closure window, guests will not have access to boat service connecting Wilderness Lodge to destinations like Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

And if you’ve stayed here before, you know that’s kind of a big deal!

Boat transportation at Wilderness Lodge isn’t just convenient—it’s one of the most scenic and relaxing ways to travel on property. Gliding across Bay Lake with views of the resorts and Magic Kingdom is something many guests intentionally build into their day.

So what happens instead? During the closure, Disney buses will replace boat service as the primary transportation option to and from the resort. While buses are reliable, they don’t quite deliver the same atmosphere—or that mid-day “escape” feeling many guests love about the boats.

The good news? This is only a temporary disruption. Boat service is expected to resume on May 1, even as dock refurbishment continues in the background through the summer. That means if your trip falls later in May or beyond, things should start to feel more normal again (even if you spot some ongoing construction nearby).

It’s also worth noting that this project is part of a larger, ongoing refurbishment at Wilderness Lodge expected to continue through 2026, meaning guests may see or hear construction in certain areas during their stay.

If you’re planning a visit, the biggest takeaway is simple: build in a little extra travel time and adjust expectations—especially if you were counting on that iconic boat ride.
