Hexed has its first song, and it’s out today.

Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Billie in Disney’s Hexed, released her cover of “Magic” by The Cars on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The original song first appeared on the band’s 1984 album Heartbeat City, and Steinfeld’s version puts a fresh spin on it. You can stream it now on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other digital platforms. She recorded it with her childhood friend Demitri Lerios, and she called the release a meeting of her two creative passions, acting and music.
There’s more to listen to if you want to dive in. A Disney’s Hexed playlist launched on Spotify the same day, and it includes Steinfeld’s “Magic” along with several needle drops from the film. The full Disney’s Hexed Official Soundtrack arrives November 20, and it includes Kris Bowers’ original score and Steinfeld’s version of “Magic.”
If you’re new to the movie, here’s the setup. Hexed is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new animated feature, opening exclusively in theaters on November 25, 2026. Billie is an impulsive teenager who discovers magical powers and is pulled into Hexe, a witch realm, where she teams up with her mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, to uncover family secrets. Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand direct, with Josie Trinidad as co-director. Tickets are on sale now.

Picking a classic song with a title like “Magic” for a movie about a teen who finds out she’s a witch is a smart match, and a cover is a fun way to introduce a new film to people who may know the original from their parents’ playlists. If you’ve got kids who love Hailee Steinfeld, this is an easy one to add to the car playlist before opening week, and the needle drops on the Hexed playlist could be a fun preview of what the movie will sound like. I’m curious to hear how Steinfeld’s version plays in the film itself.
