If you’re headed to the Polynesian Village Resort in the coming months, here’s a quick timeline update.

Disney now says the refurbishment at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will run through early 2027. The previous plan was to wrap up by the end of 2026.
The updated resort notice says the work includes some areas of the resort and the villas and bungalows, along with a reconfiguration of the front entrance roadway. Disney also notes that “some views of the theme parks and other surrounding areas may be impacted.”
If you’re worried about how much of your stay will be affected, here’s the good news. Most resort dining, pools and amenities remain available. Construction is most noticeable during the day, Disney says it will try to minimize disruption, and the work pauses at night when more guests are at the resort. Disney also suggests allowing extra travel time when you arrive or leave, so build in a few extra minutes for check-in and getting to the parks. From what has been shared, the work focuses on exterior projects, including roofing, and no guest rooms are being renovated.

A few big pieces of the project are already done. The new main entrance opened in December 2025, and the new bus loop opened July 13, which is why the updated notice no longer mentions the bus area.
Now for the one spot that’s been missing from the fun. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, the outdoor patio, has been closed since April 2026 during exterior work at the Great Ceremonial House. Disney’s target for its return has been late October, so check the resort page before you plan a visit around it. The indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto remains open, so you can still get your tiki fix.

Construction at a resort is never anyone’s favorite part of a trip, but the way Disney has laid this out is helpful. Most of the dining, pools and amenities are open, the work happens during the day instead of overnight, and there are no guest room renovations to worry about. For families, I’d say the biggest thing is to give yourself a little extra time on arrival day and to ask about the view when you book, since the notice does mention that views may be affected. The Polynesian is still one of the most beloved resorts on property, and a little scaffolding isn’t going to change the monorail ride or the lagoon at sunset. I’d just stay flexible and check the resort page before you go.
We’ll keep you posted on updates to the Polynesian refurbishment, including when Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace reopens. Keep checking back with us here at Theme Park Scope for the latest Disney resort news, and tell us in the comments if you have a Polynesian stay coming up.
