I hope you’re sitting down, because Disney Cruise Line just announced boba.

Yes, the chewy tapioca pearls, the giant straws, the whole delightful thing, coming soon to select ships. And I have been thinking about it for the last twenty minutes, so let me walk you through what we know and where my head is at.
Here is the good stuff. Boba is landing at two spots across four ships. On the Disney Fantasy, you will find it at Frozone Treats. On the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny, it is coming to Wheezy’s Freezies. Disney also mentioned that availability may vary by sailing, which is cruise-speak for “do not promise your kids this on day one and then panic.” The photos that came with the announcement show cups with the Wheezy’s Freezies logo, plus boba in cute barrel-shaped cups with the Disney Cruise Line logo, which looks like it belongs to Frozone Treats. I am going off the photos for that part, so take it as a good guess and not a final answer.

Boba has become a big thing at theme parks, and Disney Cruise Line already has a boba spot on another ship. Over on the Disney Adventure, Disney’s own cruise website lists a casual, Little Mermaid-themed cafe called Bewitching Boba and Brews that serves bubble tea and other drinks, with neon signs of Ursula, Flotsam, and Jetsam. That is a different venue on a different ship, and I have not seen anything linking it to this announcement. But it tells me Disney knows people want a fun, colorful drink in their hand while the ship sails away, and I fully support that.
Now, the family side, because that is what we are about around here. Boba is a very kid-friendly treat in vibe, but there are a few things I would keep in mind. Tapioca pearls are small and chewy, and they can be a choking worry for very young kids, so if you have a toddler, I would think twice and check with your child’s doctor if you are unsure. I also have not seen anything on ingredients, so I cannot tell you whether these drinks have caffeine, dairy, or other allergens. If your family deals with allergies or sensitivities, ask the crew before you order. And since there are no prices yet, I would treat this as a special-occasion treat first and see how it fits your budget once we know more.
I will also say this: “boba” can mean so many things. It could be a classic milk tea, a fruity slushy, or something totally Disney-themed with a clever name. I have no idea which direction they are going, so I am keeping my expectations calm, even though my inner snack goblin is already making a wish list.

Here is where I land. I love this. Cruise ships are all about little moments, like sitting by the pool with a cold, silly, sweet drink and no plans. Boba fits that perfectly, and having it at the same spots that already do frozen treats makes sense to me. I would love to see a few flavors that are not super sweet, and some options for kids and adults who do not want caffeine. But I am also a “show me the menu” kind of gal, so I will wait for the details before I get too carried away. If you are cruising soon, try it and tell me what you think. I am cheering for a good one.
Okay, now I need to know: are you team boba, and what flavor would you want to see on a Disney ship? Tell me in the comments, and keep coming back to Theme Park Scope for more Disney Cruise Line news, family tips, and the occasional chewy pearl.
