Universal Orlando just announced a one-day celebration so specifically built for Wicked fans that I genuinely cannot decide if I’m more excited about the yellow brick dance floor…

…or the fact that there’s an actual trivia competition where I can finally weaponize my encyclopedic knowledge of Oz lore for something other than annoying my friends.
On Saturday, October 24, from 12 until 7 PM Universal CityWalk is hosting Oztacular Spectacular, a single-day fan event built entirely around the Wicked film franchise. Universal’s calling it “thrillifying,” which, fine, I’ll allow the pun, it’s earned at this point given how much cultural real estate Wicked has taken up since the first film landed in theaters in 2024, followed by Wicked: For Good just last November. A full year later, Universal is clearly still riding that wave, and honestly, good for them, because this lineup looks genuinely packed.

Let’s start with the photo ops, because stained-glass backdrops are doing a lot of heavy lifting in the official description, and I am already planning my outfit around them. These picturesque setups are built to recreate that specific visual language Wicked leans on so heavily, all jewel tones and dramatic framing, which should make for some genuinely great photos if you actually put in the effort instead of just snapping a quick phone pic and moving on.
Character appearances are the other big draw here, with meet and greets scheduled for both Glinda and Elphaba. If you’ve been waiting for your chance to actually stand next to one of Oz’s two most complicated best friends and not immediately start crying about their entire relationship arc, this is your shot. Alongside the meet and greets, there are special displays featuring actual costumes and props pulled from the films, which is the kind of detail that turns a fan event from “fun afternoon” into “genuinely worth building a day around.”

Then there’s the part that’s already living in my head rent-free: a DJ spinning Wicked hits all afternoon while guests dance on an actual yellow brick dance floor. I don’t make the rules, I just fully intend to follow them. If “Defying Gravity” doesn’t make an appearance in that set list at least once, I will be filing a formal complaint, possibly to Glinda directly, since she seems like she’d actually take the meeting.
For anyone who wants their fandom to come with a competitive edge, Universal’s also running trivia sessions throughout the day, with exclusive giveaways on the line for whoever actually knows their Wicked lore cold. And if you’d rather shop than compete, the Universal Legacy Store will have the latest Wicked merchandise on hand, which, let’s be honest, is probably where most of our money ends up going regardless of how the trivia round shakes out.
Here’s the practical part worth knowing: this is a free, one-day event happening in CityWalk itself, so you don’t need a park ticket to attend Oztacular Spectacular specifically. That makes it a genuinely easy add-on if you’re already planning to be at Universal Orlando that Saturday for a park day, or even if you’re just in the area and want a reason to swing by CityWalk without committing to a full theme park ticket. Given the mix of photo ops, character meet and greets, and a dance floor that’s probably going to get crowded fast once word spreads, I’d plan to arrive earlier in that noon-to-seven window rather than showing up right at the tail end hoping for a quiet moment with Elphaba.

If you’re the type who’s already rewatched both films more times than you’d like to admit out loud, or you just want a fun, low-commitment Saturday built around a franchise that’s clearly not going anywhere anytime soon, Oztacular Spectacular looks like exactly the kind of one-day event worth actually showing up for.
We’ll have more coverage once the event actually happens, so check back with Theme Park Scope to see how the yellow brick dance floor holds up under pressure.
