If you’ve ever been handed one of Disney’s famous little red cards, congratulations, you were part of Disney history.

One of the most recognizable behind-the-scenes systems at Disney Parks has officially reached the end of the line. After more than a quarter century of helping Cast Members accurately calculate attraction wait times, Disney has officially retired the FLIK (Fabulous Line Information Keeper) wait time tracking system.
While many guests never knew the system by name, countless Disney fans remember being selected to carry one of the iconic red wait time cards through an attraction queue before handing it to a Cast Member at the loading area.
What Was the FLIK System?
Introduced in 1999, the FLIK system helped Disney measure actual guest wait times by giving select guests a red card at the entrance of an attraction. When those guests reached the boarding area, Cast Members collected the card and recorded how long the journey through the queue had taken.
Those real-world wait times allowed Disney to post more accurate estimates at attraction entrances throughout the parks. According to Jonathan Reuel, Walt Disney World’s OpSheet Ecosystems Product Director, Disney recently converted the final remaining FLIK location, officially bringing the 26-year-old system to an end.
The End of a Disney Parks Tradition
For many longtime Disney visitors, receiving one of the red FLIK cards felt like a special assignment. It was a simple interaction, but one that gave guests a small role in helping thousands of others plan their day.

Although Disney began phasing out the cards years ago, the final operational location has now officially been retired, marking the end of an era in Disney Parks operations.
Disney has not publicly detailed the technology replacing FLIK, though modern systems are believed to rely on a combination of sensors and other digital tools to estimate attraction wait times rather than physical tracking cards.
A Small Piece of Disney History
While most guests probably won’t notice anything different during their next Walt Disney World or Disneyland visit, the retirement of FLIK closes the chapter on one of Disney’s longest-running operational systems.
It’s a reminder that even the smallest traditions, from carrying a red card through Space Mountain to helping update a posted wait time, can become memorable parts of the Disney Parks experience.
