A long-shuttered transportation dock at Disney Springs is finally getting some attention—but don’t expect it to reopen just yet.

Sassagoula River Cruise

Construction crews are now at work on the West Side Sassagoula River Cruise dock at Disney Springs, where refurbishment has begun on a transportation location that has remained closed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the visible work is a promising sign, the dock remains closed, and Walt Disney World has not announced plans to return it to service.

During a recent visit to Disney Springs, refurbishment work was visible at the West Side dock.

Signs

The most noticeable change is that the roof is currently being replaced, with the structure covered in plywood while work continues. Aside from the roof project, the dock itself appears largely unchanged from when it was last in operation.

Construction activity is also evident in the surrounding water.

Transportation changes

Yellow turbidity curtains have been installed around the dock. These floating barriers are commonly used during waterfront construction projects to contain debris and sediment, preventing them from spreading into nearby waterways while work is underway.

The Dock Has Been Closed for Years

The West Side Sassagoula River Cruise dock never reopened following Walt Disney World’s COVID-19 closures in 2020.

Only open dock

Today, the Marketplace Dock remains the only operating Sassagoula River Cruise dock at Disney Springs, having resumed service in 2021. Both the West Side and The Landing docks continue to sit idle.

Does This Mean the Dock Is Reopening?

At this time, there’s no indication that the refurbishment means boat service will return to the West Side dock.

Watercraft boats

Disney has not announced any plans to resume operations, and the work could simply be part of routine maintenance to preserve the existing structure. Until Disney provides an official update, guests should continue planning to use the Marketplace Dock for Sassagoula River Cruise transportation to participating Disney Resort hotels.

We’ll continue monitoring the refurbishment and will share any updates if Disney announces plans to reopen the West Side dock or expand boat service at Disney Springs.
