Another construction project is in the works at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, but this time, it’s happening outside the hotel itself!

As Disney continues transforming one of Walt Disney World’s flagship Deluxe Resorts, newly filed planning documents reveal that another major project is on the way. This latest update doesn’t involve guest rooms or restaurants — instead, Disney is preparing to overhaul portions of the resort’s parking and roadway infrastructure near the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.
While most guests probably don’t spend much time thinking about resort parking lots, these plans could improve traffic flow, parking availability, and pedestrian access around one of Walt Disney World’s busiest resort areas.
Walt Disney World has filed new plans with the South Florida Water Management District for what is being called the “GF Parking Modifications” project.

According to the filing, Disney plans to modify and reconfigure parking lots and nearby roadways at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa as part of a broader infrastructure improvement project. The work is tied to the World Drive North Phase 3 project and focuses on the area between the Grand Floridian Disney Vacation Club buildings and the nearby Island Tower.
A 3.4-Acre Construction Project
The largest portion of the project covers approximately 3.40 acres.

Plans call for expanding and reconfiguring portions of the Disney Vacation Club parking area, the Wedding Pavilion parking lot, and the adjacent driveway and roadway connections.
The goal is to create additional parking while improving circulation through this section of the resort. The plans also show a more continuous parking corridor extending from the Grand Floridian Disney Vacation Club area toward the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.
A New Covered Walkway Is Also Planned
One of the more guest-friendly additions included in the plans is a covered pedestrian walkway.
According to the filing, Disney intends to build a covered path connecting the Disney Vacation Club guest room area at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa directly to the Wedding Pavilion.

The weather-protected walkway would make it easier for guests attending weddings or special events (and Disney Vacation Club members staying nearby) to travel between the two locations without being exposed to Florida’s famous afternoon rain showers.
Which Areas Could Be Impacted?
Based on the planning documents, the primary areas associated with the project include Disney Vacation Club parking, Wedding Pavilion parking, the Wedding Pavilion, the resort’s Health Spa area, as well as the nearby roadways leading toward Island Tower.

Guests visiting these areas could eventually encounter temporary detours or alternate parking arrangements once construction begins. At this time, however, Disney has not announced when construction will start or how long the work will take.
Construction at the Grand Floridian Continues
This latest filing joins several ongoing projects at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
The resort has already undergone extensive updates in recent years, including refreshed guest rooms, lobby enhancements, and continued work around the porte cochère. The Grand Floridian Café is also scheduled to close this summer for refurbishment, with breakfast and brunch temporarily relocating to Cítricos during the project.

Now, it appears Disney is turning its attention to improving the infrastructure surrounding the resort as well.
What This Means for Future Guests
Although parking lot projects rarely generate the same excitement as a new attraction, they can make a noticeable difference in the overall guest experience.
Additional parking capacity, improved traffic flow, and better pedestrian connections could become increasingly important as the Magic Kingdom resort area continues to evolve — especially with the addition of the nearby Island Tower and other ongoing improvements around Seven Seas Lagoon.

For now, though, guests planning a stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa shouldn’t expect any immediate changes. Disney has filed the plans, but no construction schedule or completion date has been announced. As always, plans remain subject to permitting and could change as the project moves forward.

We’ll continue watching this project closely and share updates as Disney announces construction timelines or additional details.
