Ten years ago, SeaWorld Orlando unleashed a predator unlike anything the park had ever seen, and coaster fans have been chasing that thrill ever since.

Today, we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mako, the hypercoaster that forever changed SeaWorld Orlando’s coaster lineup and helped establish the park as one of Florida’s premier thrill ride destinations.
When Mako officially opened on June 10, 2016, it wasn’t just SeaWorld Orlando’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster — it was a statement!

And ten years later, it’s still one of the best roller coasters in the state.
The Ride That Changed SeaWorld Orlando
Named after one of the ocean’s fastest sharks, Mako was designed to make riders feel like they were gliding through the water with the speed and agility of the legendary predator.
Built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the hypercoaster stands 200 feet tall and reaches speeds of up to 73 miles per hour.

The ride features nearly 4,800 feet of track, multiple airtime hills, sweeping turns, and that unforgettable first drop that still delivers the same rush today as it did opening day.
For many coaster enthusiasts, Mako remains one of the finest hypercoasters ever built.
A Fan Favorite for a Reason
What makes Mako special isn’t just its statistics. It’s the feeling.
Unlike attractions that rely on inversions, launches, or special effects, Mako focuses on pure coaster fundamentals — speed, airtime, and smoothness.

The ride’s floating sensation has become legendary among thrill seekers, and countless fans still rank it among the top roller coasters in Florida and beyond.
Even after a decade, it’s not uncommon to hear guests step off the ride and immediately head back into the queue for another lap.
A Major Moment for Orlando’s Coaster Scene
Mako arrived during a period when Orlando’s coaster lineup was rapidly evolving.
The attraction helped solidify SeaWorld Orlando’s growing reputation as a destination for thrill rides while complementing the park’s animal experiences, shows, and family attractions.

Over the years, SeaWorld has continued expanding its coaster collection with rides like Ice Breaker, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster, and Penguin Trek, but Mako remains the attraction many guests consider the park’s signature thrill ride.
Ten Years Later
A lot has changed in Orlando’s theme park landscape since 2016. New lands have opened. New coasters have debuted. Entire theme parks have been built. Yet Mako continues to deliver the same incredible ride experience that made coaster fans fall in love with it a decade ago.
Whether it’s your first ride or your hundredth, there’s something special about cresting that lift hill, seeing the Orlando skyline in the distance, and knowing exactly what’s coming next.

For ten years, Mako has delivered unforgettable thrills, countless screams, and some of the best airtime moments in Florida.
Here’s to a decade of speed, airtime, and memories, and hopefully many more years of soaring above SeaWorld Orlando. Happy 10th Anniversary, Mako!
