If you thought the ground felt a little strange at Walt Disney World yesterday afternoon, you weren’t imagining it.

Guests and Central Florida residents reported feeling tremors across the region on June 8 after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Cuba, creating a rare moment that many Walt Disney World visitors never expected to experience during their vacation.
While earthquakes are not unheard of in Florida, they’re certainly uncommon enough to catch attention — especially when guests start noticing unusual movement while visiting “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”
According to reports from guests and residents, light shaking was felt throughout parts of Central Florida, including the Walt Disney World Resort area.
The tremors were linked to a powerful earthquake that occurred south of Cuba. While the epicenter was hundreds of miles away from Walt Disney World, seismic waves were reportedly strong enough to be felt in portions of Florida.
Several guests took to social media to ask whether others had experienced the shaking, with some describing brief vibrations, swaying sensations, or movement inside buildings.

At this time, there have been no reports of damage, injuries, attraction closures, or operational impacts at Walt Disney World as a result of the earthquake.
The resort continued normal operations throughout the day, and guests were able to enjoy attractions, dining, entertainment, and resort activities as scheduled.
Because Florida sits far from major fault lines, most earthquakes felt in the state tend to originate elsewhere in the Caribbean or southeastern United States and are usually experienced as mild tremors rather than damaging events.

For many visitors, feeling an earthquake while at Walt Disney World may have been a first. While Florida occasionally experiences minor seismic activity from distant earthquakes, it’s not something most guests expect to encounter during a Disney vacation.
The event quickly became a topic of conversation online as guests compared experiences and shared where they were when they felt the brief shaking. Thankfully, the earthquake appears to have caused no issues for Walt Disney World operations, making it more of a surprising story than a disruptive one.
