It’s hard to believe, but Universal Orlando’s newest theme park has already celebrated its first birthday.
One year after officially opening its gates on May 22, 2025, Universal Epic Universe is marking a major milestone, and according to Universal, the park continues to influence the future of theme park design and immersive storytelling.
In a new feature highlighting the park’s anniversary, Universal showcased several of the innovations that have helped Epic Universe stand apart since its debut. Among them are the free-flying dragon drones in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, interactive Power-Up Bands in Super Nintendo World, next-generation interactive wands in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, and highly immersive attraction technologies found throughout the park.
The park was designed around five distinct worlds connected by the lush gardens and attractions of Celestial Park, creating an experience that encourages guests to fully immerse themselves in each portal before moving on to the next adventure. Since opening, Epic Universe has become home to some of the most technologically ambitious attractions Universal has ever created, including Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, and Stardust Racers.
According to Universal leadership, millions of guests have visited Epic Universe during its first year, helping transform Universal Orlando Resort into a true week-long vacation destination. The addition of the park and its surrounding hotels has also generated significant economic impact throughout Central Florida.
To celebrate the anniversary, Universal has also released limited-edition merchandise inspired by Epic Universe and its various worlds, giving fans another way to commemorate the park’s milestone year.
And perhaps most exciting for theme park fans, Universal has repeatedly hinted that Epic Universe’s story is only beginning. With hundreds of acres still available for future development and expansion, speculation continues to grow about what could eventually be added to the resort’s newest park.
One year after opening, Epic Universe remains one of the most ambitious theme park projects ever built, and if Universal’s comments are any indication, the innovations that debuted here may help shape the future of themed entertainment for years to come.
