Three vacant locations. Two mysterious project names. And now, a brand-new Walt Disney Imagineering permit.

Something is clearly happening at Disney’s BoardWalk, but Disney still isn’t saying what.

A newly filed Notice of Commencement has added another piece to the puzzle, and while it doesn’t answer the biggest questions surrounding the BoardWalk’s future, it does suggest that movement is happening behind the scenes.

The latest filing points to signage installation at the resort, and Disney fans are already wondering whether it could be connected to the mysterious “Project Amazon” and “Project Bubbles” entries that recently surfaced in public records.

Walt Disney Imagineering Files New Signage Permit

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement tied to an address associated with Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.

The permit lists Design Communications Ltd. as the contractor, a company frequently used by Walt Disney Imagineering for signage projects throughout Walt Disney World.

According to the filing, the scope of work is straightforward installation of signage.

While that may seem like a minor detail, signage permits often represent one of the final visible steps before a new location, tenant, restaurant, shop, or experience is revealed.

At this point, however, Disney has not confirmed what signage is being installed or what project the permit is connected to.

Is It Connected to Project Amazon or Project Bubbles?

That’s where things get interesting.

The new Notice of Commencement arrives just as Disney fans continue trying to figure out the identities of two mystery projects that recently appeared in the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District database.

Those projects are listed as Project Amazon and Project Bubbles. Neither project has been officially announced by Disney, and no public details have been released regarding what either space will eventually become.

As of now, there is no confirmed connection between the newly filed signage permit and either mystery project.

The Former Big River Grille Remains a Mystery

One of the most closely watched vacant locations at Disney’s BoardWalk is the former Big River Grille & Brewing Works.

The longtime restaurant officially closed on January 21, 2024, and the location has remained vacant ever since. Public filings currently identify the space as Project Amazon.

While some fans initially speculated that the project name might offer clues about a future tenant, the naming may actually be much simpler than that.

Because Big River Grille was a brewery named after a river, “Amazon” could simply be an internal reference to a famous river rather than a hint about what Disney intends to place in the location.

If that’s the case, the project name itself may provide no meaningful clues about the future of the space.

The Former Promenade Fine Art Gallery Is Also Vacant

The second mystery project is tied to the former Promenade Fine Art Gallery. The gallery closed in late October 2025, leaving another vacant storefront along Disney’s BoardWalk.

Current records identify that location as Project Bubbles. As with Project Amazon, the name may be tied to the building’s previous use rather than its future plans.

The gallery frequently featured marine-themed artwork, making “Bubbles” a logical internal reference connected to its former identity. If that’s true, Disney fans searching for clues within the project name may be looking in the wrong place.

And Then There’s Jellyrolls

Adding even more uncertainty to the situation is the former Jellyrolls location. The popular dueling piano bar closed in April 2025.

Unlike the other two locations, no project name has yet appeared in public filings for the former entertainment venue. However, the building is currently being gutted, indicating that work is actively underway. Disney has not announced what will replace Jellyrolls.

Disney Has Not Announced What’s Coming Next

At the moment, that’s the biggest takeaway.

Despite multiple vacant locations, mysterious project names, active construction work, and now a signage permit, Disney has not announced any new tenants, restaurants, retail locations, entertainment concepts, or redevelopment plans for any of the affected spaces.

The newly filed permit confirms that work is moving forward somewhere within the BoardWalk area, but it doesn’t yet reveal what guests can expect.

The latest Walt Disney Imagineering signage permit may not answer those questions, but it does suggest that progress is happening behind the scenes.

Whether the filing is connected to Project Amazon, Project Bubbles, or something entirely different remains unknown.

Until Disney makes an official announcement, all eyes will remain on the BoardWalk.
