It looks like Disney’s next major Animal Kingdom expansion just got a little more official.
As construction continues on Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a newly filed permit is providing one of the clearest indications yet that a playground is on the way to the new land.
While Disney has yet to officially announce plans for the playground or reveal any design details, the latest filing points directly to a company that specializes in exactly that kind of project.
And if previous permits are any indication, we may already know where it will be located.
Walt Disney Imagineering Files New Permit
According to a newly filed Notice of Commencement, Walt Disney Imagineering has filed paperwork tied to an address within the future Tropical Americas area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The most interesting detail in the filing isn’t the address itself — it’s the contractor listed on the permit.
The contractor named is Landscape Structures, Inc., a commercial playground equipment manufacturer that has been operating since 1971. The Minnesota-based company is employee-owned and is considered one of the largest playground manufacturers in the industry.
That contractor selection makes the purpose of the project seem fairly straightforward.
While the Notice of Commencement does not specifically describe the work being performed, the company’s specialty leaves little doubt that Disney is moving forward with plans for a playground within Tropical Americas.
This Company Has Worked on Disney Playground Projects Before
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Landscape Structures has appeared on permit filings at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The same company was listed as the contractor on a 2021 permit involving playground work in DinoLand U.S.A.
That area, of course, is now in the process of being transformed into Tropical Americas as Disney reimagines a significant portion of Animal Kingdom.
Because of that history, the newest filing adds additional credibility to the idea that Disney is proceeding with a dedicated play area as part of the expansion.
Previous Permit Filings Already Revealed the Location
While this latest filing doesn’t include detailed construction plans or a description of the playground itself, earlier permit filings have already provided clues about where it will be built.
Those plans showed a playground footprint located on the former site of Cretaceous Trail.
The location sits between DINOSAUR, which is being transformed into the future Indiana Jones attraction and the former Chester and Hester’s store.
Because of its placement within the land, the playground could potentially tie into the Indiana Jones storyline that will become a major part of Tropical Americas.
However, Disney has not officially confirmed any theme, story elements, or design details associated with the playground.
For now, an Indiana Jones connection remains speculation based on the playground’s location within the land.
Disney Has Yet to Announce the Playground
Despite multiple permit filings pointing toward the project, Disney has not publicly announced the playground. No concept art has been released. No opening timeline has been shared. And Disney has not confirmed whether the area will feature Indiana Jones-themed play elements or any other specific design details.
At this point, the permit confirms that work is moving forward, but the final appearance and experience remain a mystery.
Tropical Americas Opens in 2027
The playground is expected to become part of Tropical Americas, the new Animal Kingdom land currently under construction in the former DinoLand U.S.A. footprint.
Disney has previously announced that Tropical Americas is scheduled to open in 2027.
The land will feature the new Indiana Jones attraction replacing DINOSAUR, along with an Encanto-themed attraction and other experiences inspired by the cultures, landscapes, and stories of the Tropical Americas region.
As construction continues, permit filings like this one are helping provide small glimpses into what guests can expect when the project is complete.
With the land scheduled to open in 2027, Disney fans likely won’t have to wait too much longer before learning exactly what Imagineering has planned.
