Go-Go Gadget movie reboot!

It looks like Disney may finally be bringing one of its most recognizable animated franchises back to the big screen. After years of development, a new live-action Inspector Gadget reboot is reportedly moving forward at Walt Disney Studios, and a familiar comedy star could be stepping into the title role.
According to reports, Will Ferrell is currently in talks to star as the bumbling cybernetic detective in Disney’s latest attempt to revive the beloved franchise.
Inspector Gadget Reboot Back on Track
Disney’s live-action Inspector Gadget reboot is actively moving forward after several years in development. The project was first announced in 2019, when it was revealed that “Saturday Night Live” writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell had been tapped to write the screenplay.

The new film is now reportedly set to be directed by Sean Anders, whose previous credits include Spirited and Daddy’s Home.
Will Ferrell in Talks for the Title Role
Perhaps the biggest news surrounding the reboot is the reported casting of Will Ferrell.
According to reports, Ferrell is currently in talks to play Inspector Gadget, the famously accident-prone detective equipped with an endless assortment of mechanical gadgets and inventions hidden throughout his body.
While Disney has not officially confirmed Ferrell’s casting, the comedian’s larger-than-life comedic style could make him a natural fit for the character’s blend of slapstick humor, overconfidence, and chaotic crime-fighting adventures.
A Franchise With Disney History
Inspector Gadget originally debuted as an animated television series that ran from 1983 through 1985. Produced by DIC Entertainment, the series followed the adventures of the cybernetic detective as he attempted to stop the schemes of the villainous Dr. Claw, often with help from his niece Penny and her dog Brain.
Although WildBrain now owns the Inspector Gadget intellectual property, Disney retains the film rights to the franchise.
Disney previously brought the character to theaters in 1999 with a live-action adaptation starring Matthew Broderick. The film was followed by the direct-to-video sequel Inspector Gadget 2 in 2003, which starred French Stewart in the lead role.
What Happens Next?
At this time, Disney has not announced a release date for the project, nor has the studio officially confirmed Ferrell’s involvement. However, the latest report suggests the reboot is gaining momentum after several years of development.
With a director reportedly attached and discussions underway with a potential star, fans of the classic animated series may soon see Inspector Gadget return to theaters for a new generation.

We’ll continue following this story and provide updates as Disney releases additional information about the project.
