Disney has released a new episode of its revived “Imagineer That!” series, giving fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to maintain the Audio-Animatronics inside Country Bear Musical Jamboree at Magic Kingdom. The episode explores the extensive work Walt Disney Imagineering performs to keep the beloved attraction operating and looking as good as it did on opening day.

The latest episode follows Tom Morrow 2.0 as he visits Frontierland to learn how Imagineers keep the Country Bears performance-ready every day. During the episode, he meets with Walt Disney Imagineering Art Director Brittany Smith, who walks viewers through the attraction’s show quality process.

The focus of the episode is on the bears themselves and the many different disciplines required to keep them operating at peak performance.

Three Key Areas of Maintenance

According to the episode, Imagineers focus on three primary areas when maintaining the Country Bear Musical Jamboree Audio-Animatronics: show quality reviews, figure finishing, and animation performance and movement accuracy.

These reviews help ensure that every bear continues to look and perform the way guests expect. Imagineers regularly inspect the figures’ appearance, movement, costumes, and overall condition to identify anything that may need attention.

It Takes More Than Mechanics

One of the biggest takeaways from the episode is that maintaining Audio-Animatronics involves much more than mechanical repairs.

Disney explains that the process includes painting and figure finishing, fur maintenance, costume upkeep, cosmetology work, range-of-motion evaluations, and performance reviews to ensure storytelling remains intact.

Smith notes that teams of artists help keep the bears looking fresh, while costumers regularly clean and maintain outfits to ensure the characters remain show-ready for guests. The episode even highlights details such as refreshing nails, repainting elements, and maintaining glitter effects on certain characters.

Keeping the Magic Alive

The episode specifically emphasizes how Disney approaches maintenance as both a technical and artistic process.

Rather than focusing solely on mechanical functionality, Imagineers evaluate whether each character is still delivering the intended performance and emotional connection for guests. The goal is to preserve the storytelling and personality that have made the Country Bears a Magic Kingdom favorite for generations.
