“Bright suns”…just got a little less intense.
If you’ve ever stepped foot on Batuu in the middle of a Florida afternoon, you already know — shade is basically a superpower. And now, guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge finally have a little more of it.
As WDWMAGIC first reported, after months of construction walls and speculation, a brand-new shade structure has officially debuted near Savi’s Workshop, and it’s already making waves!
The update comes to the courtyard area just outside Savi’s Workshop in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where guests build custom lightsabers in one of the land’s most immersive experiences. Construction in the area had been ongoing since late 2025, with walls finally coming down in early April 2026 to reveal the completed project.
So, what’s new?
The space now features themed canopy structures stretched between stylized poles, designed to blend into the rugged, scrap-metal aesthetic of Batuu. Instead of the temporary umbrellas that previously dotted the area, this permanent installation feels much more in-universe — like something pieced together by locals in Black Spire Outpost.
But here’s the interesting part: while the new structure looks better, some early observations suggest it may not actually provide more shade than before. In fact, depending on the time of day, coverage could feel a bit more limited compared to the old umbrellas.
Still, this update appears to be part of a larger effort across Galaxy’s Edge to improve guest comfort ahead of the brutal Central Florida summer. Nearby shaded seating areas have also been added recently, signaling that Disney is paying attention to one of the land’s biggest guest complaints — heat.
There are still a few finishing touches to come, too. Landscaping around the area looks freshly reset, and some elements (like a previously displayed speeder bike) have yet to return.
