Universal just leveled up the magic, and these new wands change EVERYTHING!

If you thought casting spells in the Wizarding World couldn’t get any more immersive…think again. Universal Orlando is officially ushering in a next-generation era of magic, and it’s not just an upgrade — it’s a full-on evolution.
A major expansion to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is bringing brand-new second-generation interactive wands—and they’re packed with features that make the experience more personal, more responsive, and way more magical.

At the heart of this update are the Second Generation Interactive Wands, first introduced in 2025, which completely transform how guests interact with spell-casting throughout the parks. These upgraded wands now feature light-up effects and haptic vibrations, meaning you can see and feel your magic in action like never before.

But the real game-changer? App integration. Guests can connect their wand to the Universal Orlando Resort app through “Universal Play,” allowing them to create a wizard profile, choose a Hogwarts house, track spell progress, and even compete for the House Cup.
Here Are ALL the New Second-Generation Wand Designs:
Unlike traditional character wands, these are inspired by wand woods, giving each one a more personal, customizable feel in silver lime, redwood, pine, and spruce. Each wand can also be paired with a magical core like unicorn hair, dragon heartstring, or phoenix feather, adding another layer of storytelling to your wizarding identity.
And if you’re more of a “main character energy” type of wizard, there’s even more good news!
Next-Gen Character Wands Are Starting to Arrive
Universal has already begun rolling out second-generation versions of fan-favorite character wands, including:
- Sirius Black

- Voldemort

- Luna Lovegood

These upgraded versions include all the same advanced features, blending iconic designs with next-level tech.
Beyond the wands themselves, this expansion is also adding new spell locations across Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe, bringing the total number of interactive experiences to an all-time high.
And yes — your older wands will still work, but they won’t unlock the full range of enhanced effects these new ones offer.
If you’re planning a trip soon, this might be the one upgrade that completely changes how you experience the Wizarding World.
