If you’re heading to Universal Orlando soon…you might not see Hogwarts the way you expect.

The iconic castle has now been almost completely covered as refurbishment work ramps up—marking a major visual change in one of the resort’s most recognizable areas. Here’s what’s happening.
Hogwarts Castle at Universal’s Islands of Adventure is now almost entirely covered in scrim and scaffolding as refurbishment work continues on the structure.
Recent photos show the castle’s exterior largely hidden behind gray tarp-like material and construction framework, with only small portions of the tallest spires still visible above the scrim.

The work is focused on the exterior of the castle, with crews using scaffolding to access higher sections for maintenance and restoration.
Universal has confirmed that the refurbishment is ongoing and is expected to be completed later in 2026, though no exact timeline has been announced.

Despite the extensive exterior work, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (the attraction housed inside the castle) remains open to guests.
The castle serves as the centerpiece of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade, one of the most popular areas at Universal Orlando.
Because of the refurbishment, those visiting the land may notice a significant change in sightlines, particularly the iconic reveal of Hogwarts Castle at the end of Hogsmeade village.

Refurbishment projects of this scale are typically focused on routine maintenance, repainting, and structural updates, helping preserve the detailed theming of the castle over time.
While the current appearance may impact photos and overall atmosphere in the short term, the work is expected to result in a refreshed look once completed.
For now, the castle remains accessible from the inside—but from the outside, one of Universal Orlando’s most recognizable icons is temporarily out of view.
