…the drinks are great, the vibe is classic old Hollywood, and the sun is actively trying to ruin your day. Disney just fixed that problem for good.

The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge, the popular outdoor walk-up lounge attached to the sit-down Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant at Hollywood Studios, has reopened following a refurbishment that began on June 29 and wrapped up in early September. Throughout construction, the main restaurant stayed open, and the lounge’s walk-up bar temporarily relocated to the former Starring Rolls space so guests wouldn’t lose access entirely during the work.

The headline improvement here is impossible to miss: a large, permanent red awning now stretches across the entire outdoor dining area, finally giving guests real, consistent shelter instead of the scattered umbrellas that used to be the only real protection from sun and sudden Florida downpours. The color and design were chosen specifically to match the restaurant’s existing entrance canopy, so the addition reads as part of the original Hollywood Brown Derby aesthetic rather than something bolted on as an afterthought.

Beyond the awning itself, the refurbishment included:

• New ceiling fans built into the covered structure
• New lantern-style lighting fixtures with wrought-iron scrollwork detailing that echoes design elements found elsewhere on the building
• Fully redone pavement throughout the patio
• New concrete column bases for the outer wall’s lampposts, replacing the previous design where lampposts extended down alongside the black railings

The familiar furniture is back largely unchanged: round tables with white tablecloths and the same black metal chairs with red upholstery, cushions included on some seats and not others, exactly as guests remember from before the closure.

The lounge’s menu continues to mirror much of what’s available inside the main restaurant, organized around a few core categories: specialty cocktail flights, classic cocktails, a dedicated selection of Scotch and bourbon, and non-alcoholic drink options for anyone skipping the alcohol. It’s a solid, well-rounded lineup for a spot that’s really built around unwinding with a drink rather than a full sit-down meal.

The lounge is open daily from 11 AM to 8 PM.

This reopening lands in the middle of what’s shaping up to be one of Hollywood Studios’ most active years in recent memory. Between Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, new Mandalorian and Grogu missions on Smugglers Run, the brand-new Magic of Disney Animation and its surrounding Walt Disney Studios courtyard, and now a genuinely upgraded Brown Derby Lounge, this park has quietly been rolling out meaningful refreshes across multiple corners at once. If you’ve been putting off a Hollywood Studios trip because your memory of the park is a couple of years stale, there’s a real case that now’s a good time to go back and see how much has actually shifted.

For anyone who’s already made the covered patio part of their regular Hollywood Studios routine, the practical upside here matters more than the aesthetics: real, reliable shade means this lounge just became a much more comfortable stop on a hot afternoon than it ever was before.
