According to a statement released by his family, Neill died suddenly on July 13 in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones. His family said his passing was unexpected and noted that he had recently been declared cancer-free after participating in an experimental treatment following his battle with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. A cause of death has not been announced.

His family described him as someone who faced life’s challenges with humor, resilience, and grace, qualities that endeared him to fans around the world throughout a career that spanned more than five decades.

Although Sam Neill appeared in dozens of acclaimed films and television series, he will forever be remembered by many fans as Dr. Alan Grant.
