Disney’s first movie coming to Sphere isn’t a Marvel blockbuster or an animated classic; it’s one of the most iconic cult films of all time!

In a surprising announcement, Sphere Entertainment has revealed that The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be transformed into an immersive Sphere Experience in 2027, making it the first Disney-owned film ever to be showcased inside the revolutionary Las Vegas venue. The news comes after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, bringing the beloved 1975 musical under the company’s ownership.
According to Sphere Entertainment, Sphere Studios will use its advanced production technology to enhance the original film for the venue’s massive wraparound LED display and immersive audio system. While exact details about the presentation haven’t been revealed, the experience is expected to follow the same immersive format used for The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, which reimagined the classic film for the venue’s 16K-resolution screen.
The new production is currently slated to debut sometime in 2027.
Why This Is a Big Deal for Disney
Although Disney now owns the film through its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, this marks a unique milestone for the company.
Many fans may have expected Disney’s first Sphere collaboration to feature one of its blockbuster franchises such as Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, or an animated classic. Instead, that distinction belongs to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the legendary musical horror comedy that has maintained its status as the longest-running theatrical release in film history thanks to decades of midnight screenings and audience participation.
Since its 1975 release, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a cultural phenomenon, with generations of fans attending screenings dressed as their favorite characters, performing alongside the movie, and participating in the film’s famous interactive traditions.
Sphere Aims to Expand the Experience
In announcing the project, Jim Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, emphasized that the goal is to preserve what made the film special while taking advantage of the venue’s unique technology.
He noted that The Rocky Horror Picture Show “redefined audience participation and became a cultural phenomenon,” adding that Sphere provides the opportunity to take that spirit of immersion “to an entirely new level.”
While the company hasn’t confirmed exactly how the interactive traditions associated with Rocky Horror will translate into the Sphere environment, fans can likely expect a presentation unlike any previous screening of the film.
Continuing Sphere’s Expanding Film Lineup
The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere will become the latest addition to the venue’s growing collection of immersive cinematic experiences.
The project follows the success of Postcard from Earth, the venue’s original production created specifically for Sphere, and The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, which demonstrated how classic films can be adapted using modern visual technology for the massive wraparound screen.
With Disney now adding one of cinema’s most beloved cult classics to that lineup, the announcement signals another step in the company’s expanding presence beyond traditional movie theaters.
Additional details are expected to be announced closer to the attraction’s 2027 debut.
