If you’ve been participating in Universal Orlando’s Backlot Club scavenger hunt, you may notice something very different around Universal Studios Florida.

Backlot Club tower

Universal has quietly begun replacing the larger Backlot Club towers with new, much smaller interactive towers positioned throughout the park.

The updated units have started appearing in storefront windows and themed display areas around Universal Studios Florida, offering guests a more discreet way to participate in the interactive experience while preserving the immersive environments around them.

Universal

The new towers feature the familiar Universal Backlot Club branding along with a large illuminated touchpoint that guests can tap to collect progress. For those who prefer not to tap the device directly, each tower also displays a unique four-digit code that can be manually entered through the Backlot Club platform.

Unlike the original Debut machines, which were larger and more noticeable throughout the park, the new compact towers blend into their surroundings and are often tucked inside themed window displays. The smaller footprint allows Universal to incorporate the interactive elements without significantly impacting the storytelling of each location.

New mini towers

The new mini-towers are positioned behind glass inside display windows, with the illuminated touchpoints remaining fully visible and accessible for guests participating in the hunt. Each unit still includes QR code information directing guests to learn more about the Backlot Club experience.

The change appears to be part of Universal’s ongoing evolution of the Backlot Club program, which encourages guests to explore the park and discover hidden locations while unlocking digital rewards and experiences.

Universal Orlando has not officially announced the rollout of the new devices, but guests visiting Universal Studios Florida may want to keep an eye on shop windows and display areas, as the smaller towers can be much easier to miss than their predecessors.
