Delta Air Lines is making a change to its onboard service that could impact your next short-haul trip. Starting soon, passengers on some shorter flights will no longer receive the complimentary snacks and drinks many travelers are used to getting in the air. Here’s what we know right now.

Beginning May 19, 2026, Delta will remove food and beverage service from approximately 450 daily flights that are under 349 miles long. That means passengers in Main Cabin and Delta Comfort on affected short flights will no longer receive complimentary snacks, meals, or drinks during the flight.

This change does not apply to every Delta flight. Flights that are 350 miles or longer will now receive the full beverage and snack menu in Main Cabin and Delta Comfort. Delta First passengers will continue receiving full service regardless of flight distance.

Snacks

Delta previously eliminated service on flights under 250 miles in 2015 and moved to an express-style service on flights under 349 miles in 2017. This latest update removes that short-flight service completely, while expanding full snack and beverage service to flights of 350 miles or more.

According to Delta, the change is intended to create a more consistent onboard experience. The airline also stated that crews will remain available and attentive to passengers, even on flights where food and drink service is no longer offered.

Delta

For travelers, the biggest takeaway is simple: if you’re flying Delta on a short route, bring your own water and snacks before boarding — especially if you’re used to grabbing a complimentary drink once you’re in the air.
