A hidden Disneyland adventure is now CLOSED, and it happened without warning!

If exploring caves, crossing rope bridges, and hunting for pirate treasure were on your Disneyland to-do list…you might be out of luck (for now). One of Disneyland’s most unique and interactive experiences has suddenly gone dark, and the unexpected timing is catching a lot of guests off guard.
In an unannounced move, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland Park has officially closed for refurbishment. This closure isn’t just affecting one section — it applies to the entire island experience.

This means that while the experience is under refurbishment, guests can no longer access the island, the raft transportation across the Rivers of America is unavailable, and all walkthrough areas, caves, and exploration paths are closed.
Because the attraction refers to the entire island, this is effectively a full shutdown of one of Disneyland’s most interactive spaces.
According to Disneyland’s official calendar, the attraction is currently listed as closed through at least May 7, with a potential reopening date of May 8.
However, since this refurbishment was not announced in advance, that timeline could change depending on the scope of work.
For many guests, Pirate’s Lair isn’t just another attraction; it’s a piece of Disneyland history. The island originally opened in 1956, just one year after Disneyland itself, and was later transformed into Pirate’s Lair in 2007 with added elements inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean.

Today, it offers a completely different kind of park experience in self-guided exploration, hidden caves like Dead Man’s Grotto, rope bridges, scenic river views, and a slower-paced escape from busy park pathways.
It’s one of the few places in the park where guests can truly roam freely — which makes this closure especially noticeable.
If you were planning to visit Pirate’s Lair, you’ll need to adjust your park strategy. Refurbishments are a normal part of keeping Disneyland running smoothly, but the sudden closure of Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island is definitely one guests will notice.
Whether it’s a quick refresh or something more extensive, this hidden gem of Frontierland is taking a temporary break.
Stay tuned for more updates on Disneyland refurbishments, ride closures, and park changes as they happen.
