The Upside Down is officially heading to the drive-thru.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s is teaming up with Netflix’s Stranger Things universe for a limited-time Happy Meal promotion that blends ‘80s nostalgia, collectible toys, and interactive storytelling into one major pop culture crossover. This isn’t just a themed box; it’s a full experience tied to the Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85 expansion, bringing Hawkins energy straight into fast food form.

This collaboration introduces a Stranger Things-themed Happy Meal box that immediately sets the tone for the promotion, designed around the retro aesthetic and supernatural mystery the series is known for. Inside, guests will find one of 12 collectible character toys, making this one of McDonald’s more ambitious collectible drops in recent years.

But the experience doesn’t stop at physical toys. Each Happy Meal also includes a Stranger Things activity book, leaning into that classic ‘80s kid-adventure vibe that matches the show’s Hawkins setting.

Even more interactive, every meal comes with a QR code that unlocks a digital game experience, allowing fans to step into an interactive storyline where they help “save Hawkins” from supernatural threats tied to the Upside Down. It’s a mix of physical nostalgia and modern gaming engagement that bridges generations of fans.

At the heart of the promotion are the 12 collectible toys, featuring fan-favorite characters from the series. The lineup includes:

  • Eleven
  • Mike
  • Dustin
  • Lucas
  • Max
  • Will

Each figure is designed to reflect the show’s iconic characters while tying into the broader “Tales From ‘85” concept, which reimagines the Stranger Things universe through a more animated, retro-adventure lens.

The full set encourages repeat visits and trading, a classic McDonald’s Happy Meal strategy, but this time layered with one of Netflix’s most popular franchises.

The rollout is expected to begin May 5, 2026, in the United States, with international releases following in waves across different markets.

Some regions are expected to receive staggered toy distributions over time, meaning collectors may need multiple visits to complete the full set. This detail has already sparked interest among fans and collectors alike.

McDonald’s has a long history of pop culture partnerships, but Stranger Things stands out because it blends multiple layers of nostalgia: ‘80s aesthetics, supernatural storytelling, and modern streaming-era fandom.

It’s nostalgic, interactive, and just a little bit strange, which feels exactly right for Hawkins.

Stay tuned for more updates on Disney, Universal, Netflix, and limited-edition entertainment merch drops as they launch.
