Just keep swimming…because Dory is officially coming back!

A brand-new short film set in the beloved Finding Nemo universe is officially in development—and one familiar voice is making a major return.
According to recent reports, Ellen DeGeneres is set to reprise her iconic role as Dory in an upcoming Pixar short, marking her first major return to the character in years.

The project is still in early production, meaning key details, including the official title, storyline, and release date, have not yet been revealed.
What is confirmed is that the short will take place within the world of Finding Nemo, bringing fans back to one of Pixar’s most beloved underwater stories.

This marks a significant moment for both Pixar and DeGeneres, as Dory has remained one of the franchise’s most recognizable and fan-favorite characters since her debut in 2003.
Dory wasn’t just a supporting character; she quickly became the heart of the franchise, leading to her own sequel, Finding Dory, which went on to surpass $1 billion at the global box office.
This new short signals a return to that world in a more compact format, which Pixar has historically used to expand stories, revisit characters, and test new creative ideas.
It also marks a notable return for DeGeneres herself, who has largely stepped away from major Hollywood projects in recent years.

While this is “just” a short film for now, it could open the door for more content set in the Finding Nemo universe. Pixar has previously hinted at the possibility of exploring more stories within this world, and this project could be the first step in that direction.
At the very least, it’s a nostalgic return to one of Disney and Pixar’s most iconic characters, and one fans have clearly never stopped loving.
If you grew up quoting Dory or still find yourself saying “just keep swimming,” this is one announcement you’ll want to keep an eye on.
