Planning a Universal Orlando trip this spring or summer? You might want to check this twice, because nearly a DOZEN attractions are either closing or going down for refurbishment.

Universal Orlando Resort is no stranger to routine maintenance and seasonal refurbishments, but the next few months are shaping up to be especially active across all three parks. From quick overnight tune-ups to multi-month closures of major headliners, guests planning visits will want to stay ahead of the schedule so they’re not surprised at the gates.
While closures can shift slightly, there are currently around nine major and minor ride impacts confirmed or expected across Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay.
Here’s your full breakdown of what’s closing and when.
Me Ship, The Olive (Islands of Adventure)

Located in Toon Lagoon, this interactive play area is scheduled for a brief refurbishment from May 26 through June 9, 2026. A short closure, but one that impacts younger guests who love this climb-and-play structure.
Men In Black — Alien Attack! (Universal Studios Florida)

The interactive blaster attraction MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack at Universal Studios Florida will temporarily close for regular maintenance and refurbishment from June 1 through June 16, 2026.
Yoshi’s Adventure (Epic Universe – Super Nintendo World)

This family-friendly ride will be closed for a short maintenance window from April 21–23, 2026. Expect a quick turnaround, but it’s worth noting for anyone planning Nintendo World time.
Mine-Cart Madness (Epic Universe)

The Donkey Kong-themed coaster Mine-Cart Madness, known for its illusion of ride vehicles leaping across broken track sections, will be temporarily closed for a one-day refurbishment on May 3, 2026.
Viking Training Camp (Epic Universe — Isle of Berk)

On the opposite side of Universal Epic Universe within How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, the interactive play area Viking Training Camp will be closed for refurbishment from May 4 through May 22, 2026.
Finnegan’s Bar & Grill (Universal Studios Florida)

A guest-favorite dining location is set for a longer refurbishment beginning earlier in the year and continuing into winter 2026. While not a ride, it can affect dining plans in the New York section of the park.
Jurassic Park River Adventure (Islands of Adventure)

Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal Islands of Adventure closed for refurbishment on January 5, 2026. It will reopen on November 20, 2026. During the eight months of downtime, we expect Universal to upgrade the attraction’s technology, sets, and animatronic dinosaurs. We do not anticipate Universal changing the Jurassic Park theming to the newer Jurassic World aesthetic.
Pteranodon Flyers (Islands of Adventure — Jurassic Park)

Nearby in the same land, Pteranodon Flyers, the gentle roller coaster with no hills that can only be experienced by families with young children, closed on February 27, 2026, and will reopen on May 15.
Volcano Bay

Universal Volcano Bay, the water theme park at Universal Orlando Resort, will undergo an extended seasonal refurbishment beginning October 26, 2026. The final operating day before the closure will be October 25.
Universal has stated that the park is expected to reopen on or before March 24, 2027, marking a multi-month downtime for the water park.
This will be the first significant extended refurbishment period for Volcano Bay since it opened in 2017. While the park does occasionally close during colder weather months, it has not previously been scheduled for a prolonged closure of this length. By contrast, some other Orlando-area water parks do operate on recurring multi-month seasonal closure schedules each year.
Most of these closures are short-term, but a few (like Jurassic Park River Adventure and the Volcano Bay refurbishment window) can significantly shift how you plan your day.
If you’re visiting during this period, consider planning alternate water rides or thrill attractions, allowing extra travel time between parks, double-checking showtimes and dining availability, while keeping flexible backup plans for Epic Universe rides.
Universal Orlando’s refurbishment schedule is always evolving, and even small updates can change your touring strategy overnight.
Be sure to check back regularly for the latest closure updates, reopening news, and park changes — we’ll keep tracking everything so your next visit runs as smoothly as possible!
