Skip-the-line JUST got a major upgrade at Universal Orlando, and it’s all in your phone!

If you’ve ever stared at a 90-minute wait time and thought, “There has to be a better way”…Universal just answered you, and it’s changing how you plan your park day.
In a quiet but game-changing update, Universal Orlando Resort has officially rolled out Universal Express Now, a brand-new feature available directly inside the Universal Orlando Resort App, and it could completely reshape how guests skip the lines.

Unlike traditional Express Pass options, which require you to commit (and pay) for access across multiple rides, Universal Express Now is all about flexibility. This new offering allows guests to purchase skip-the-line access for a single attraction, on demand, right from their phone.

Universal Express Now is only available day-of and while you’re physically inside the park, making it a more spontaneous, real-time decision rather than a pre-planned add-on. Once purchased, guests receive one-time Express access to a specific attraction during a designated return window — similar to how timed entry systems work, but with Universal’s signature Express twist.

This isn’t entirely out of nowhere. The feature was quietly tested last year on select attractions like Revenge of the Mummy and Skull Island: Reign of Kong, but now it’s expanding across multiple parks — including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and even Epic Universe.
So what does this mean for your next visit?
For starters, this is a more budget-friendly and strategic way to skip lines. Instead of paying for a full-day Express Pass (which can get pricey depending on crowd levels), guests can now pick and choose exactly which ride they want to prioritize. That means you can rope drop most attractions, and then splurge on skipping the line for that one must-do ride when the wait spikes.

It also signals a bigger shift in how theme parks are approaching line-skipping. Universal Express Now feels like a hybrid between traditional Express and modern, app-based systems — giving guests more control, but also requiring a bit more planning in the moment.
And yes…availability is limited and can appear sporadically based on demand, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the app throughout your day.
This is one of the most interesting operational changes we’ve seen at Universal in a while, and it could seriously impact how you tour the parks!
