Getting from Disney Springs to your Disney World Resort just got a lot less flexible, and it’s a change visitors will definitely notice.

A new update to transportation at Disney Springs is now in effect—and it directly impacts how guests can use Disney bus service to return to their resorts.
We’ve just learned of a recent change that seemingly appeared overnight at Walt Disney World, which could complicate matters on your next visit. If you’ve ever found yourself filling your vacation days “resort hopping” and taking a bus over to other Disney World Resorts to fill your time when you’re not riding rides and sitting down for shows, you may need to adjust your plans. Going forward, guests will now need to show proof of a valid resort reservation in order to board buses from Disney Springs to Disney Resort hotels.
And yes… that’s a pretty big shift.

Historically, Disney Springs has offered complimentary bus transportation to Disney Resort hotels during operating hours, with service typically running until about an hour after closing.
But until now, those buses have been widely used by any guest on the property—not just those staying at Disney resorts; that’s what’s changing!
With this new policy, Cast Members are now verifying resort stays before allowing guests to board buses heading to Disney hotels. This means guests without a confirmed reservation at that specific resort will no longer be able to use Disney Springs as a transportation hub to access hotels across property.
For many guests, Disney Springs has long been used as a workaround—whether it was to access dining reservations at a resort, explore hotel lobbies, and seasonal decor, or navigate transportation across Walt Disney World without a direct route. Since there’s no direct bus service between theme parks and Disney Springs, guests often rely on resort transfers to get where they need to go.

Now, that strategy may not be as reliable.
Disney hasn’t publicly outlined every detail of how strict enforcement will be long-term, but early reports indicate Cast Members are actively checking for valid hotel reservations before boarding. When we asked about this new policy change, we were advised that this could remain in effect through Memorial Day (or longer if Disney chooses).
And timing-wise, this change isn’t random. As crowds continue to grow and transportation demand increases, this move appears to be focused on prioritizing resort guests and reducing unnecessary congestion on bus routes.
It also aligns with broader efforts Disney has made in recent years to manage capacity across transportation systems and guest flow throughout the resort.

If you’re heading to Disney Springs and expecting to bus back to a resort, make sure you have a valid reservation—or be prepared to use alternative transportation like rideshare, walking paths (where available), or connecting through a theme park earlier in the day.
This isn’t a flashy update—but it’s one that could change how you move around Walt Disney World in a very real way. We’ll be sure to update you futher on this new policy as we learn more in the days ahead.
