The doors may not be hanging yet, but Monstropolis is definitely coming to life.

Disney fans got a fresh look behind the construction walls this week as Walt Disney Imagineering released a new video highlighting progress on the future Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The update offers one of the clearest official looks yet at the transformation taking place in the former Grand Avenue and Muppets Courtyard area as Disney builds an entirely new land inspired by Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. franchise. And while there’s still plenty of work to do, the project is beginning to move from demolition into something that actually resembles a future theme park land.
Imagineers Showcase Progress on the Future Land
In the newly released video, Walt Disney Imagineers Michael Hundgen and Mark White walk viewers through ongoing construction while sharing details about the ambitious project. The footage provides a closer look at work happening on both the future Monstropolis streetscape and the land’s headline attraction: Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster.

Construction activity is visible throughout the site, with large sections of foundation work, structural steel, utility infrastructure, and coaster-related construction now clearly underway. The video demonstrates just how much progress has been made since the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D and the surrounding Grand Avenue area.
The Door Coaster Continues to Take Shape
One of the biggest highlights of the video is a new look at the construction of the suspended roller coaster inspired by the famous door vault sequence from Monsters, Inc.
Disney first announced that Monstropolis would feature its first suspended coaster, allowing guests to experience the sensation of racing through the monster door warehouse seen in the film. The new construction footage shows increasing amounts of structural steel and support work appearing throughout the coaster site.

Recent aerial views have also shown coaster supports, extensive concrete work, utility infrastructure, and portions of what will eventually become the attraction’s massive show building. The scale of the project becomes especially apparent in Imagineering’s latest update.
While Disney has not announced an opening date for Monstropolis, the amount of vertical construction now visible suggests the project is entering a significant new phase.
Monstropolis Is Beginning to Replace Grand Avenue
Beyond the coaster itself, the video highlights work occurring throughout the future city of Monstropolis.
Guests familiar with the former Grand Avenue area would immediately recognize that many buildings have undergone substantial exterior modifications. Construction crews continue stripping, rebuilding, and retheming existing structures to transform them into the monster metropolis seen in Pixar’s films.

The former Muppet*Vision 3D theater, one of the most recognizable buildings in the area, has undergone significant exterior changes as Imagineers reshape the structure to fit the new land’s visual style. Nearby buildings are also being reworked to create a more cohesive Monstropolis streetscape.
Disney’s Monsters, Inc. Land Continues to Expand
Monstropolis was first announced during D23 in 2024 and represents one of the largest ongoing expansion projects at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new land will replace the former Grand Avenue area and bring guests directly into the world of Monsters, Inc.

Disney has previously revealed concept art showing city streets inspired by Monstropolis, themed dining locations, entertainment offerings, and the groundbreaking suspended coaster attraction. The latest Imagineering video demonstrates that many of those concepts are steadily becoming reality.
Construction updates may seem routine, but official Imagineering videos often reveal details fans can’t easily see from public pathways or aerial photography.
This newest behind-the-scenes look not only confirms continued progress but also gives guests a better understanding of the scale of Disney’s investment in the project. Seeing Imagineers on-site discussing the work helps bridge the gap between concept art and reality.
For Monsters, Inc. fans, it also serves as a reminder that Monstropolis is no longer just an announcement — it’s actively being built!

There’s still a long way to go before guests can step through the doors and enter the world of Monsters, Inc., but with every new construction update, that day feels a little closer.
