Disney’s massive Encanto attraction project just hit another construction milestone.

Walt Disney Imagineering has officially extended a permit tied to the upcoming Encanto-themed attraction coming to the new Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, pushing the project timeline into late spring 2027.
The updated permit is connected to ongoing work for the new Encanto attraction, replacing parts of DinoLand U.S.A. as Disney continues transforming the area into the Tropical Americas expansion.
Imagineering Extended the Existing Permit
According to public permit filings, Walt Disney Imagineering amended an existing Notice of Commencement connected to the project. The filing once again lists longtime Disney contractor Whiting-Turner as the lead contractor for the work.

The amended permit carries a standard one-year expiration window from the filing date, extending the expiration timeline through May 19, 2027.
Importantly, this is not an entirely new permit filing. Instead, the document is classified as an amended Notice of Commencement, which is commonly used to extend project timelines, update contractor information, reflect scope adjustments, and continue active construction authorization for ongoing projects already underway.

In this case, the amendment likely serves primarily to extend the previous permit expiration date as construction continues on the attraction and the surrounding Tropical Americas expansion.
Tropical Americas Construction Continues to Accelerate
The updated permit arrives as construction visibly ramps up across the former DinoLand U.S.A. area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Over the past several months, Disney has filed multiple permits tied to infrastructure work, electrical installations, area development, ride construction, set installation, and demolition and site preparation throughout the Tropical Americas project.

Recent aerial photos and construction updates have shown vertical structures beginning to rise for the future Encanto attraction as Imagineering continues work on the land’s large-scale transformation.
The Encanto Attraction Will Anchor Tropical Americas
Disney previously announced that the new Tropical Americas land will feature a major Encanto-inspired attraction centered around the Madrigal family and Casita.

Concept art released by Disney shows guests entering Casita before venturing into Antonio’s rainforest-themed room filled with vibrant wildlife and magical environments inspired by the film.
The Tropical Americas expansion will also include:
- An Indiana Jones attraction replacing DINOSAUR
- New dining locations
- Updated pathways and landscaping
- A carousel attraction
- Extensive new theming throughout the land
Disney has previously stated that Tropical Americas is expected to open sometime in 2027.
