Tom Kane (the legendary voice actor best known to Disney Parks fans as the voice of the Walt Disney World Monorail system and narrator of Happily Ever After) has passed away at the age of 64 following complications related to a stroke he suffered in 2020.

For more than a decade, Tom Kane’s voice became woven directly into the soundtrack of Walt Disney World vacations. Kane officially became the voice of the Walt Disney World Monorail system in 2012, replacing longtime monorail narrator Joe Hursh.

Since then, millions of guests have heard Kane welcoming them aboard Disney transportation with the now-iconic monorail safety spiel:

“Please stand clear of the doors.”

His voice also became deeply associated with Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom, where he served as the emotional narrator for the beloved nighttime spectacular.

For many Disney fans, hearing Kane’s narration became one of those instantly recognizable Disney World moments that simply felt magical.

Outside Disney Parks, Kane was one of the most respected voice actors in animation and gaming history. He was especially beloved by Star Wars fans for voicing Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars across more than 130 episodes between 2008 and 2020.

There’s a VERY good chance you grew up hearing Tom Kane’s voice without even realizing it.

Kane Suffered a Major Stroke in 2020

In late 2020, Kane suffered a devastating stroke that significantly affected his speech, reading, and communication abilities. His family later confirmed that he officially retired from voice acting in 2021 due to the lasting effects of the stroke.

According to reports, Kane passed away surrounded by family in Kansas City.

Tributes from fans, voice actors, Disney fans, and Star Wars communities immediately began pouring in online following news of his passing.

There are certain Disney voices that become permanently attached to the emotional memories fans carry with them from the parks. For many guests, Tom Kane became one of those voices.
