One of Disney’s most iconic restaurants is coming back SOON…but there’s a catch.

Disney has officially revealed when the Blue Bayou Restaurant will reopen—and the timeline is sooner than you might expect. But there’s a twist!
Disney has confirmed that Blue Bayou will temporarily close for refurbishment starting May 4, 2026, with a tentative reopening scheduled for late May 2026.

That means the closure is expected to last just a few weeks—relatively short for a Disney refurbishment—but still long enough to impact a lot of spring travel plans.
If you’ve got a trip planned in early to mid-May… this is one reservation you won’t be able to make.
Why This Restaurant Matters So Much
Blue Bayou isn’t just another table-service restaurant; it’s one of the most unique dining experiences in any Disney park!

Located inside Pirates of the Caribbean, guests dine under a perpetual twilight sky while boats drift by just feet away. It’s been a fan-favorite since opening in 1967 and remains one of the hardest reservations to secure at Disneyland.
So anytime this location closes (even briefly), it’s a big deal.
The Reopening Won’t Be “Normal”…At First
When Blue Bayou reopens in late May, it won’t be fully back to normal just yet.
Disney has indicated the restaurant will offer a “modified dining experience” during the reopening period, due to the ongoing refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean nearby.
That means:
- Obstructed views of the attraction
- Possible construction noise
- A slightly altered atmosphere compared to the usual experience
And if you’ve ever dined here, you know the atmosphere is everything.
Why This Is Happening Now
While Disney hasn’t shared full details on the scope of the refurbishment, the timing strongly suggests it’s tied to updates happening on Pirates of the Caribbean itself.
Because the restaurant and attraction share the same show building, any major work on the ride almost always impacts Blue Bayou as well.
What This Means for Your Trip
If Blue Bayou is on your Disneyland must-do list, timing is everything right now:
- Visiting before May 4? Book ASAP — reservations will fill fast
- Visiting mid-May? You’ll need a backup dining plan
- Visiting late May or beyond? Expect limited availability and a slightly different experience
Either way, this is one of those updates that can seriously impact your dining strategy. At the end of the day, Blue Bayou isn’t going away for long. But the experience you return to might feel a little different, at least for a while.
And knowing Disney, that likely means even bigger things could be happening behind the scenes.
